The residents and shopkeepers in highway town of Chanderkoot in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday staged a march and shut their businesses to protest against the alleged high-handedness of a police officer.

The protesters alleged that Station House Officer (SHO) Chanderkoot Dalgit Singh on Monday evening thrashed a non-local shopkeeper Omveer Singh without any reason.

The injured shopkeeper who was bleeding in his ear was shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment, they said.

"Dalgit Singh misbehaves with locals with the help of a local police constable," they alleged.

Beopar Mandal president Chanderkoot Qasim Ali Bhatoo demanded the suspension of SHO Dalgit Singh and the local constable whom he alleged of harassing the locals every evening in an inebriated state.

Top police and civil administration officials have reached at the spot to pacify the situation.
