A non-local labourer on Monday tried to take his life by a sharp-edged weapon in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The person has been identified as Hassan Sheikh, 20, a resident of West Bengal.
A painter by profession, he is temporarily residing near Bazar Masjid Kishtwar.
According to the police, Sheikh was reportedly mentally disturbed and attempted a suicide.
"His younger brother Hashmat Sheikh intervened and prevented him from slitting his throat by snatching the knife from his hand," said SSP Kishtwar, Abrar Ahmed Chwodhary.
He was rushed to GMC&H Jammu for further treatment.
