
Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested an alleged "interstate drug peddler" and recovered 102-kilogram of poppy straw from his possession, here at Chanderkote.
A police officer said, "A checkpoint was established at Chanderkote on the Jammu-Srinagar highway by a team from Chnaderkote police station, led by station house officer, Abid Shah Bukhari. During checking, a Punjab-bound truck, PB13AW 5808, was stopped. While searching the vehicle loaded with apples, two gunny sacks were recovered."
On opening the sacks, the officer said, 102-kg of poppy straw was recovered.
He identified the arrested man as Soni Singh, a resident of Chander Khurd, Fatehabad of Haryana.
"An FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further," the officer added.
