Marwah people oppose Burser Power Project

The residents of Marwah Tehsil in Kishtwar district today strongly opposed the construction of proposed Burser Hydroelectric Power Project saying that people will become landless and will be forced to migrate as more than 5,000 kanals of land would submerge.

While addressing a press conference at Dak Banglow Kishtwar today, Ghulam Rasool Magray, a resident of Marwah and also district vice president of National Conference (NC), said that entire Marwah would lose its identity due to the proposed power project as vast chunk of land would submerge in the dam.

He informed that the general public of Marwah is also on continuous hunger strike since long against the construction of dam but the government is least bothered.

On the occasion, the speakers said that around 1500 families living in the area were to be relocated and that more than 5,000 kanals of agricultural land would submerge under the proposed dam.

This will virtually make the people landless and they will be forced to migrate, the speakers said.

They said that it is a conspiracy to deprive the people of Marwah of their land and property.

“These dams are not in the interest of this inhabited region and such projects should be constructed somewhere else,” they said.

Meanwhile, the speakers also requested the general public of Kishtwar to get united to oppose the construction of Bursar Power Project.
