National Conference (NC) Kishtwar unit today organized an awareness programme at party office to make the party workers aware about Article 35-A, guaranteeing special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and the consequences in case it is scrapped.

The prgramme was organized under the leadership of senior NC leader and MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo.

The prgrammee was attended by all the block presidents, secretaries and other office bearers of the party besides grass root workers of National Conference.

Addressing the gathering, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo dwelt in detail about the background which necessitated the insertion of Article 35-A in the Article 370 pertaining to the special status of J&K State.

He said that forces inimical to the unique demographic and strategic position of J&K have been conspiring to dilute the special status of J&K.

He alleged that the central government is deliberately attempting to revoke Article 35- A.

"Disturbing Article 35-A would be disastrous not only for the state but for the nation as well," he said.

Kichloo said the 90-year-old law, introduced by Maharaja Hari Singh to keep the identity of Jammu and Kashmir intact, gives its people exclusive right over land, jobs in government departments, scholarship to students, special aid and relief.

He said, we will not only loose our lands and avenues of employment, but we will also be losing our cultural legacy and language.

He said that any move to play with the sentiments of the people of J&K will be resisted tooth and nail by National Conference at all levels.

He informed that former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assigned duty to all party leaders and workers to reach out to the people and make them understand what are the benefits of Article 35-A and how its revocation will prove to be disastrous for the state".

Qazi Jalalu Din, Tanveer Kitchloo (District President NC Kishtwar),  Prithvi Singh,  Abdul Rashid Butt, Qazi Nazir Ahmed,  Advocate Younis Kitchloo, Imtiyaz Zarger (Provincial General Secretary), Farooq Dev (District Youth President),  Indu Bala, Abida Begum,  Rajinder Kumar,  Pyare Lal, Mohan Lal, Shemsher Bhandari, Shameem Ahmed Butt and others also spoke on the occasion.
