After winning three wards unopposed in Banihal Municipal Committee (MC), Congress on Saturday claimed clean sweep in coming municipal polls from Banihal Municipal Committee (MC) and alleged that NC and PDP are helping the BJP.
This was stated by MLA Banihal, Vikar Rasool Wani, while addressing a press conference here today at Dak Bungalow, Banihal.
He said that the workers of two mainstream regional parties (NC, PDP) are playing role of silent poll agents for BJP in municipal elections.
He claimed that Congress will come out with concrete evidence of PDP and NC's involvement in the poll fray.
Vikar Rasool appreciated the decision of Jammu and Kashmir Congress leadership to contest municipal and panchayat polls and termed it as a mature political decision to defeat communal forces in J&K.
He said that the boycott call by the two main parties of the state NC and PDP is eyewash as "we have information that their candidates were filing nominations as proxies in Kashmir and campaigning for BJP candidates in Jammu region".
Vikar said that Congress Party is committed for safeguarding the special position of Jammu and Kashmir but joining poll fray is need of the time to teach lesson to the communal force.
On the occasion, the Congress leaders garlanded Farooq Ahmed Wani of Rallu Devgole Ward, Prince Jahangir of Kharpora Ward and Reyaz Ahmed Wagay of Nagbal Ward who were declared unopposed winners after BJP candidates Ab Majeed and Ab Rashid withdrew their nominations.
Secretary, Pardesh Congress Committee, Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday congratulated the unopposed winners of the party.
