Pak team inspects Pakal Dul site

A three-member Pakistani delegation inspected Pakal Dul dam site in village Dangdooran, about 45 kilometers from Kishtwar, on Tuesday.

The delegation comprising Indus Commissioner Syed Mohammad Mehar Ali Shah and Sheraz Jamil Memon and Tahir Mahmood Hayat were accompanied by Indian Indus Water commissioner PK Saxena, senior joint commissioner AK Agrawal and deputy commissioner Rajveer Singh.

   

The inspection is mandated under the Indus Water Treaty. This tour is an obligation imposed on both the countries by the Indus Waters Treaty 1960 between India and Pakistan. Under the treaty, both the commissioners are mandated to inspect sites and works on both the sides of Indus basin in five years. Since signing of the treaty, a total of 118 such tours on both the sides have been undertaken by the commission. 

The project envisages construction of a 167-metre high dam, HRTs of 7.20–metre diameter and 10-km length, and an underground power house with four units of 250 MW each. The annual generation will be 3387 MU.
