Patwaris, Girdawars protest at Bhadarwah

The Patwaris and Girdawars of additional district Bhadarwah on Thursday staged a sit-in in front of ADC office Bhadarwah against government’s “indifference” to their demands.

The protest was part of a strike by All Jammu and Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) unit Bhadarwah, which entered 4th day on Thursday.

The protesting Patwaris and Girdawars raised anti-government slogans and demanded resolution of their “long pending” demands.

They are seeking removal of pay anomalies, ban on direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildar, transparency in transfer policy, creation of new Patwar halqas and construction of Patwarkhanas, besides enhancement of their basic pay.

Speaking on the occasion, president AJKPA Bhadarwah Naseer Ahmed Banday criticized the state government for ignoring the demands of Patwaris and Girdwars.

He urged the field staff functionaries to be united and fight for their right.

Due to the strike, several public related works in revenue department were affected.

“We have decided to continue the pen-down strike till our demands are met. The government is responsible for causing inconvenience to the public,” said Shakeel Ahmed Mir, association’s vice president.
