The pollution due to excavation and other works on Jammu-Srinagar Highway has become a serious cause of concern for the people, especially those living in the vicinity of the highway in Ramban and its adjoining areas.
Ramban town, Chanderkote, Seri, Ramsu and Magarkote areas are the worst affected due to pollution created due to construction works going almost all along the highway.
The people of these areas alleged, “The contractor companies do not follow even basic norms to control dust and other pollutants as not even water is sprayed to minimize dust and polluting elements”.
The people complained that due to dust and other pollutants, they have started developing many heath related problems.
The locals and the civil society members appealed to the district administration to wake up to the problem and take immediate steps to check rising pollution levels before the situation takes ugly turn.
The people also complained that the matter has been taken up with the concerned authorities but step has been taken to minimize pollution.
