Power crisis hits Doda areas; Niaz slams Govt

Former minister and senior Congress leader Muhammad Sharief Niaz has criticized PDP-BJP Government for allegedly enforcing 18-hour power cuts in Bhalesa and other parts of Doda.

Former minister and senior Congress leader Muhammad Sharief Niaz has criticized PDP-BJP Government for allegedly enforcing 18-hour power cuts in Bhalesa and other parts of Doda. 

"This is a cause of concern as the curtailments have added to woes of people of the township in these chilly days," Niaz said.

He said on one hand there are power cuts taking place and on the other, advertisements of JK Government assuring people of continuous power supply are appearing in newspapers.

"The State Government has been exposed and its failure to keep the promises vis-à-vis power supply is evident," Niaz said.

Local residents too said PDD has completely failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to Doda areas in the past few months. 

"The power remains off even during night and public particularly aged and new norns are suffer badly in this winter season," they said.

Serpanch of Barthi, Javid Iqbal and Chd Mir Qasim from Batholi said: "Power is in surplus, but entire distribution system of PDD is faulty. We believe that the PDD officials in Bhalesa have failed to put the power distribution system back on track."

When Contacted, Power Minster and Dy CM (JK ) Dr Nirmal Singh  said: "We have been making all-out efforts to bring the power sector back on track, which remained in complete mess over the past many years. It will take time for the current dispensation to put it back on track," he said.

Chief Engineer, (PDD) Jammu, could not be contacted for comments, despite repeated attempts.
