A pregnant woman died while she was being shifted to a hospital, here in Mahu village of Khari tehsil on Friday, after which the residents staged a protest against the district administration and the health department for “failing to provide proper healthcare facilities” in their village.
Reports said that the woman, identified as Fatima Begum,wife of Mushtaq Ahmed, succumbed while she was being shifted to a hospital.After news of her death spread, the locals assembled in the area and staged aprotest.
The protesting villagers alleged, “Since two months, thelink road connecting Mahu and Magit villages have remained blocked due to heavysnowfall and the administration has not launched snow-clearance operation.”
They said, “Had the road been open, Fatima would have beentransported to the hospital in time and she would have been alive. Besides, thewoman could not be treated in the village due to the non-availability ofhealthcare facilities.”
They threatened to launch an intense agitation if the healthdepartment and the administration do not redress their grievance at anearliest.
The chief medical officer was not available for comments.
