Ramban students protest ‘unavailability’ of public transport

The students of Ramban staged a protest here on Saturday against the “unavailability” of public transport during the morning and evening hours.

The students assembled on the Jammu-Srinagar highway atChanderkote and blocked it.

They alleged, “There is an unholy nexus between the localtransporters and the transport department. The cheap means of transport, whichis the most suitable for us, is not being allowed to ply during the peak hours(morning and evening). We are forced to board magic autos and Tata Sumos, whoalways indulge in overcharging.”

They demanded that the fares need to be fixed to avoidovercharging and that public transport needs to ply during the peak hours, toensure that they are not forced to be fleeced.

Later, station house officer, Chnaderkote, and localexecutive magistrate reached the spot and pacified the protesters, by assuringthem that public transport will be made available at peak hours, startingSunday.
