Rehabilitate Halwagon residents, Shaheen urges governor

Banihal, Feb 21: National Conference leader and district president Ramban, SajjadShaheen, Thursday urged upon the governor to rehabilitate the residents of Halwagon village in Ramsoo tehsil, claiming that “a major chunk of the land under the village is sinking due to the widening of the Jammu-Srinagar highway”.

While expressing concern, the NC leader said, “Dozens of houses have developed wide cracks as the land underneath is sinking due to the widening work of the Jammu-Srinagar highway.”

Shaheen, while interacting with the residents, urged upon the administration to make immediate arrangements for shifting the affected-families to safer places, in order to prevent any casualties.

He alleged, “The contractor companies, who have been assigned the widening work, are not taking adequate measures to ensure safety of the civilian population living along the highway. It seems that they did not take into account that the land would sink while conducting the survey. Their callous attitude might cause serious loss of lives and property.”

The NC leader sought the governor’s intervention in the issue and urged upon him to direct the divisional and the district administration to depute a high-level team, comprising of officials of revenue department and other allied departments to the affected-village to assess the loss of property caused by widening of the road. He appealed to the governor to compensate and rehabilitate the affected families at an earliest.

During his tour of the village, Shaheen was accompanied by Nisar Ahmed Sohil, Riyaz Ahmed Mir, Mohammad Khalil Sohil, ThankurJagjeet Singh, sarpanchKuldeep Singh, Parvez Ahmed, Nawaz Sohil and Zahoor Ahmed, among others.
