The Legal Metrology Department has imposed a fine of Rs 35400 on erring traders in different areas of Ramban, an official spokesman said.
He said market checking was conducted in different areas on the basis of complaints from consumers during the month of Ramadan. "A team under the supervision of Assistant Controller Kapil Jamwal conducted extensive markets checking in the district to safeguard the interests of consumers. The team inspected various commercial establishments like fruit, vegetable, karyana, bakery, hardware shops, petrol pump, gas agencies etc", the spokesman said in a statement, adding, "The team booked fifty three cases and all cases were compounded on spot and composition of Rs. 35400 was realised".
Meanwhile, the department has appealed to the consumers to be alert during the festive season and not get carried away with lucrative offers.
