Sanitary, civic facilities limited, allege locals

Sanitary and civic facilities to the inhabitants of three municipal towns of district Ramban are limited only on papers, the locals alleged on Saturday.

The residents said, “Lanes and by-lanes are covered with filth and animal feces. Since the launch of Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, the condition of sanitation has gone from bad to worse. The claims of clean India initiative are limited on organizing rallies and on papers.”

The people also alleged that several localities of the towns of Batote, Banihal and Ramban do not have toilets and urinals. “When people from rural areas visit the town areas for some work, they suffer due to the unavailability of civic facilities,” they said.

“All the three highway towns, especially District Headquarter town Ramban, look like an ancient village due to heaps of garbage and dirt laid on roadsides, culverts and drains. There is apprehension of an epidemic breaking out as the summer season is approaching and these garbage dumps are becoming breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes,” the locals said.

The people demanded complete audit of functioning and performances of Municipal Committees across the district.
