‘Schools in Winter Zone not honouring fee-waiver order’

The state and central government is leaving no stone unturned to raise educational standards in the country “but authorities at helm of affairs here are making mockery of system by throwing rules and regulations to winds,” President of Educational Reformation Teachers Union, Tanvir Ahmad Malik, alleged on Wednesday.

The state and central government is leaving no stone unturned to raise educational standards in the country "but authorities at helm of affairs here are making mockery of system by throwing rules and regulations to winds," President of Educational Reformation Teachers Union, Tanvir Ahmad Malik, alleged on Wednesday.

He said Jammu and Kashmir recently passed an order vide No 450-edu/2016 dated 21-11-2016 wherein it ordered free education for girls upto higher secondary standard.

"But unruly scenes are being witnessed regarding this order. The admission in winter session is going on but girls students are being charged fee as routine on the plea that their offices have received no formal orders in this regard and will remit the fee back once the orders are issued," Malik alleged.

"On approaching the concerned CEOs of Winter Zone, it is being told that schools are not entitled to collect fee from the students after the government circular but still waiting for the endorsement from Directorate office," he said.

Majority of the students have taken admission but still hundreds of them are awaiting for the waiver to take the benefit of the government order.

Malik urged authorities to look into the issue and resolve it.
