Life was paralyzed by heavy snowfall in entire Chenab valley on Monday with Doda town, Ramban and Thathri receiving the season's first snowfall after several years.

Because of the snowfall, NH1A, NH1B and all the major link roads of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban have been closed for traffic movement.

People are also facing problems due to non availability of potable water and electricity in most of the areas as power supply was snapped early in the morning at Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Banihal.

"In view of accumulation of 2ft snow and continuous heavy snowfall at Patni Top stretch, the authorities have decided to stop movement of all vehicles on the highway on temporary basis," said Dy. SP traffic NH1B Aftab Ahmed.

"We have also closed all the major link roads of District Doda and Kishtwar as till 10 am, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Gandoh, Doda and Goha have recorded 2ft, 1.2ft, 1.5ft, 4 inches, 1.5ft snow respectively. Since early morning, we have not allowed any vehicles to move from their respective places," he said.

Meanwhile, scores of candidates from Chenab Valley who had to appear in Service Selection Commission (SSC) examinations tomorrow in Jammu got stuck up at their respective places

"It is snowing very heavily since last night and traffic has been suspended. Under these circumstances, it is impossible for us to reach Jammu by tomorrow. We request the authorities to postpone the examination, scheduled for tomorrow," said Ismat Ara, a student.
