Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remains open

Ramban, Mar 27: The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of light-medium and heavy vehicles today.

But the traffic movement remained slow due to narrow road stretches at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors. Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the National Highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of four heavy vehicles, single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehad –Cafeteria, Panthyal Nachlana. Shalgari and poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors.

   

They said despite slow traffic movement hundreds of light medium and heavy vehicles had crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations without any interruption till late Wednesday evening. They said heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police department issued a fresh advisory for Thursday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance light medium would be allowed to ply on either side.

They said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on the National Highway after assessing the road and traffic situation on Thursday. However, they again advised passenger vehicle operators, commuters and people not to undertake journeys on National Highway during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting tones between Ramban and Banihal. Prefer journey on Srinagar -Jammu National Highway during the day time only.
