In a mysterious incident of firing in the wee hours of Monday, a Special Task Force (STF) post was reportedly attacked and in a remote village, Tanta of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring two special police officers (SPOs).
According to the reports, unidentified gunmen, suspected to be militants attacked the STF post in the mountainous Tanta area of the district at 2 AM, seriously injuring the on duty SPOs in the firing. However there was no retaliatory fire reported.
Additional police and army personnel have been rushed to the area to tackle the situation, a senior police officer said, adding that further details are awaited. However he ruled out the militants being behind the attack.
" Around 10-12 gun shots were heard from the STF Post Tanta at 2 am today, . one of the on duty SPO received bullet in his neck and the other in his abdomen," said a senior police officer.
"We are investigating the matter, as it could be a result of rivalry or external attack as well. As of now, we have also started a search operation in adjoining forest area as a precautionary measure," officer added saying that both the injured SPOs are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Doda, from where they are about to be airlifted to Jammu for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, Army ruled out any militant attack, but as a precaution has started search operation in Tanta forest.
The injured SPOs have been identified as Kikar Singh No 1669/SPO and Mohammad Younis No 1752/SPO.
