Teachers ‘carry alcohol’ inside school building

The residents of Bungam village in sub-division Chatroo of Kishtwar district Friday demanded strict action against teachers for allegedly carrying alcohol inside the premises of local government primary school.

While talking to Greater Kashmir, a fifth standard studentof the school said, “The teachers were cooking rice and chicken in a room ofthe school on Thursday. They even had alcohol alongwith them.”

   

Another fifth class student said, “The teachers asked us togo home at around 12 noon. They were carrying a bottle of alcohol when we sawthem.”

“Bhushan Lal, a resident of Bungam village, said, “OnFriday, after the kids told us what had happened on Thursday, we visited theschool and found a bottle of wine inside the school premises.”

Another resident, Ashwani Thakur, said, “This is a veryshameful act. Taking wine bottle and cooking chicken inside the school premisesshould not happen. This issue needs to be dealt sternly. The higher authoritiesneed to be concerned about the future of the children.”

The locals claimed, “Teachers are responsible for the futureof children and when such an incident comes into the fore, we are forced tothink otherwise.”

On being contacted, the chief education officer (CEO)Kishtwar, Kuldeep Sharma, said, “San inquiry has been initiated and strictaction shall be taken against such immoral and illegal exercise, which was heldinside the premises of government primary school, Bungam-Chingam on Thursday.”
