Thousands attend Qazi Ghulam Nabi’s funeral

Thousands of people attended the funeral of Qazi Ghulam Nabi, former Imam of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, on Sunday.

As per his will, Nabi had expressed a wish that his funeral prayers be offered by Mufti Faizul Waheed, the former Imam’s relatives said.

   

During the funeral prayers, the people talked about the important contributions made by Nabi in Kishtwar.

Born in 1924, Qazi Ghulam Nabi had joined Jamia Masjid Kishtwar as Imam at the age of 21. Till 1989, he served as the Imam, besides also rendering his services as a government teacher.

The local populace, while talking to Greater Kashmir, said, “We are deeply saddened by the demise of the former Imam sahab. He touched many lives in the town during his lifespan.”

They added that the number of people participating in the funeral prayers is a clear indication to show what he meant to everyone. “We hope his soul will be at rest,” they prayed.

Meanwhile, several social, political and educational organizations also condoled the demise.
