People travelling on the Srinagar-Jammu highway were left fuming on Friday following massive traffic jams on the thoroughfare.
According to scores of commuters, the traffic department’s negligence led to chronic traffic jams that lasted for hours together at several places along the road.
“The traffic police allowed two-way traffic on the road when it was supposed to be open for one-side traffic only,” said a group of commuters at Ramsoo.
Hundreds of Jammu-bound vehicles remained stranded at Qazigund for hours together due to the traffic mess, they said.
The traffic department had Thursday evening announced that traffic will move from Srinagar towards Jammu on Friday, and no vehicle will be allowed in the opposite direction.
This, however, proved to be a lie, according to the commuters, “because two-way traffic was allowed, making thousands of commuters, including children, to suffer badly.”
