Upper Chajjla resident stage protest over water scarcity

Residents of Upper Chajjla village of Mendhar especially the village women staged a protest against Jal Shakti Department for prevailing water scarcity in the area accusing the department for leaving the people of the area on their own.

Locals including village women headed by Naib Sarpanch Mohammad Hafiz said that their village Upper Chajjla is located in Mankote block of Mendhar and was not having any tap water supply scheme after which a lift water supply scheme was started in 2012 and a water reservoir tank was constructed. “No work has been done thereafter and even pipelines are yet to be laid.” said locals while protesting against the department in the area.

They demanded senior officers to intervene in the matter and to get the Upper Chajjla lift water scheme completed at the earliest.

“We have to walk for three kilometers to reach the natural well and to fetch water for drinking with no other source of water present in the area.” village woman Shazia Kouser said.  The locals further warned to start an indefinite hunger strike if their demand for provision of tap water supply and demanded completion of lift water scheme started nine years ago.
