A massive fire broke out in forest areas here on Sunday destroying huge patches of green cover,
The flames of fire were so huge that these could be seen from the town area.
The local people alleged some foul play behind the incident and doubted the involvement of timber smugglers as they may have lit the fire for destroying the evidence of green felling.
Scores of eyewitnesses from Kishtwar town said that this is not the first incident of forest fire as similar fires incidents were reported in the forest area of Dool-Nagsini, Palmar and Putnag.
They slammed that Forest Officials for turning a blind eye towards these fire incidents as these are drastically damaging the green cover in the district.
They said that the intensity of today's fire was enough to suggest the pace at which timber smuggling is going on in distrcit Kishtwar. They futher alleged that such incidents go unchecked as the concerned department is 'hand in glove' with the timber smugglers.
They have appealed to the District Forest Officer Kishtwar and other divisions of Kishtwar district to tighten noose around smugglers to keep check in such fire incidents.
