Former minister and senior National Conference leader from Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo today said that his party will not allow the execution of any upcoming power project in Kishtwar District without safeguarding the interests of locals. 

 He said that the PDP-BJP Government is befooling the affected families on name of Rehabilitation Plan wherein the genuine and deserving rights of the people are being robbed by pursuing pressure tactics and blackmailing the land owners. 

This was stated by Kichloo while addressing series of public meetings during his extensive tour of Nagsini area including Dool, Padyarna, Kwar, Keruu, Bagna and other areas. 

During the meetings, people highlighted several issues before the NC MLC and also expressed their resentment with regard to non-release of payments to job card holders under MGNREGA, non-availability of drinking water, poor health and medical facilities, non-functioning of schools, non-availability  of rations, poor condition of roads, lack of development etc. 

They expressed their concern over shoddy implementation of  Rehabilitation Plan in terms of Kwar and Keru Power Projects. 

Kichloo said that the government has failed in fulfilling the promises made by them with the people  and added that the people are testimony to the fact that National Conference government provided sufficient ration to the people. 

He assured the people that he and his party will stand firmly behind the locals as well as well as behind those whose land and property was acquired for construction of Kwar and Kerru power projects.  

He said that nominal land compensation is being offered to the people and demanded land compensation to the affected people at par with market rates. 

He also called for ensuring regular jobs for land owners in NHPC and CVPPP. He said that people are being forced by the administration to collect the nominal compensation. 

He said the people are being threatened with legal action in case they refuse to accept the compensation being given to them. 

Kichloo warned the government and the local administration not to harass the people. 

He said that NHPC earns crorers of rupees while at the same time project affected families are being offered nothing.  

He also warned the local agents who are helping the NHPC and CVPPP in implementation of anti-people measures. 

 He also demanded free power to the people living in project areas. 

 He said government should maintain 80:20 job ratio in favour of locals. 

Kichloo was accompanied by Mohammad Sharief Kelam, Abdul Gani Lone, Mohammad Asalam, Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Yousaf, Mohammad Qasim, Farooq Ahmed, Mohammad Hanief, Mushtaq Ahmed, Lekh Raj and others.
