A youth, who was a successful transporter, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Haveli Mohalla here on Thursday.
The deceased, who was living alone in a rented accommodation at Haveli Mohalla, has been identified as 24-year-old Neeraj Kumar, a resident of Village Bhadara Shiva in Doda.
According to reports, the young transporter, who owns two Mini Buses and a chicken shop at Jaie road, after having lunch at his sister’s house came to his room late in the evening. On the next morning, as a routine, when conductor of his Matador came to his place and starting knocking at his door, no one answered.
Getting suspicious, the conductor immediately raised an alarm and along with the owner of the house broke the door open to find the body of Kumar lying on the floor.
“According to preliminary inquiry, it seems a case of suicide as an empty bottle of poison was lying near the body,” said Rajinder Singh, ASP Bhaderwah.
“The body was taken to SDH Bhaderwah for postmortem. The reason behind the extreme step taken by the successful businessman is not known yet. However, an inquest proceeding has been initiated,” the officer added.
The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after the postmortem.
