6 shops gutted in Zampa Kadal blaze

Srinagar, Dec 7: At least six shops were gutted in a fire incident at Zampa Kadal area in Downtown.

Officials of the Fire and Emergency department, fire started in one of the shops due to a short circuit on Thursday.

   

Officials said that they received information about the incident at around 5:44 am. Multiple fire tenders from various fire stations were rushed to douse off the flames.

“Fire started from one of the shops due to a short circuit and spread quickly. The incident gutted one Kashmir arts shop and a residential room on the first floor. Five shops on the ground floor were also damaged. The attic portion of these shops was involved in fire,” said the official.

He said that fire tenders from Syed Hamid Pora, MR Gunj, and Headquarters were rushed to the spot. Officials said the fire was brought under control in time and kept from inflicting further damage.

One of the fire victims, who were putting up in a room of the building, said that they lost all their belongings and savings in the incident.

“We have been working as bakers for a decade here. Our room was gutted, and we lost all our belongings. There was also cash which was gutted in the incident,” he said.
