Despite restrictions imposed in the wake of sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Baramulla and Kupwara, the social gatherings and sports activities go unabated in the twin districts of north Kashmir.
In Kralgund area of Handwara, hundreds of people were seen watching final match of a cricket tournament on Wednesday. The tourney was running for last several days.
Most of the spectators at the match were without facemasks and did not observe social distancing. "Such tournaments are being organised in other parts of the district also," said Farooq Ahmad of Kralgund Handwara.
The Kupwara administration has already re-imposed restrictions across the district.
In Baramulla district, violation of lockdown guidelines was noticed at different marriage functions in the town recently.
"There remains overwhelming participation of guests at the marriages and no social distancing is maintained at such functions," said Bilal Ahmad of Baramulla town.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, G N Itoo, said that a limited number of guests is permitted at the marriage functions. "If people violate such orders then strict action will be taken against them."
He added: "We will now appoint officials to ensure that only permitted guests participate in the marriage functions," he said.
