CASO in Mendhar village; grenades, bullets recovered

Four hand-grenades and twenty-five bullets were recovered by security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation launched in Dhargaloon village near Line of Control in Poonch’s Mendhar sub-division on Friday.

The recovery was made on the disclosure of a militant Sher Ali, who was arrested from Jammu airport eight days ago.

   

The militant was operating from Kuwait and was mastermind in facilitating infiltration through LoC in Mendhar area besides running a well established racket of cross LoC smuggling of drugs and weapons.

Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, Ramesh Angral said that Sher Ali was arrested in a case FIR 292/2020 that was registered in Mendhar police station after the arrest of three persons with arms and ammunition in Mendhar LoC area in the month of December, 2020.

“Name of Sher Ali came to the fore during investigation of the case and he was mastermind of this racket after which his movement was being tracked. He was arrested as soon as he de-boarded from a flight at Jammu airport,” he said.

SSP further informed that during the questioning of Sher Ali, some clues were developed and on his disclosure, army’s 49 RR and police launched a Cordon and Search Operation in Dhargaloon area of Mendhar.

“We have recovered four hand grenades, fifteen bullets of pistols and ten bullets of AK47 assault rifle during the operation,” SSP said.

He added that further investigation into the matter was going on.
