The National Conference boycotted the commission and rejected the nomination of its three leaders and MPs namely Dr Farooq Abdullah, Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone to the J&K delimitation panel.
Union Minister Dr Jatinder Singh, and Jugal Kishore Sharma, both from ruling BJP continue to be the associate members of the commission.
Pertinently, the Congress Party had set up a 10-member committee with former minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed as its chairman, to deal with the issue of delimitation in J&K. "We have yet to hold a meeting on this issue, but we have discussed it over phone. We will hold a video-conference with all the 10 members and discuss the issues regarding the assembly constituencies, population, etc." Sayeed said.
