Self Help Group engineers stage protest

Scores of engineers who were working under the Self Help Group (SHG) scheme on Monday staged protest outside civil secretariat here demanded rollback of the government decision abolishing the scheme.

The protest was held under the banner of “The Self Help Group of Engineers Association.” Over a hundred engineers assembled outside the secretariat holding placards and banners in their hands which read “Reserve our 30% quota”. “Revoke GAD order”, “Save our future” and “We want Justice”.

The protesters said the government had launched the SHG scheme in 2003 for unemployed engineers and proper guidelines were issued for its rollout in 2017. “But sometime ago the GAD issued an order to abolish this scheme which is grave injustice with us,” they said.

“We are unemployed engineers working under this scheme and were also earning their livelihood from it, but we don’t know why this scheme was abolished,” the protesters said and demanded the immediate rollback of the government order (No. 752-JK (GAD) of 2020 Clause–2(b) which was issued on August 10.
