Street vendors protest in Sopore

A week after the administration provided an alternate space to the street vendors who were banned by the authorities to work on main roads in north Kashmir’s Sopore town, the vendors held a peaceful protest here Saturday.

The protesting vendors were raising slogans against the government and demanding to be allowed to do business at their previous places or provide some other suitable place.

The street vendors said that the current alternate place provided by the administration was not suitable for business due to low footfall. They said that at least 20 days had passed since they were banned from commercial areas of the town.

“We should be given any suitable alternate place or be allowed to work on our previous place as from the past several days, we are facing tremendous hardships,” said a street vendor Shamsuddin.
