Traffic jams in city areas pester commuters

Many areas in the summer capital today witnessed massive traffic jams causing immense problems to the commuters.

Traffic jams were witnessed on vital city routes including Hyderpora, Peerbagh, Rawalpora, Jahangir Chowk, MA Road, Residency Road, Khayam and Munwarabad.

   

“There were traffic jams in city areas. In view of opening of schools, authorities should have put in place a traffic plan to avoid jams,” said Sajid Hassan, a commuter.

The commuters said that stalls put up by vendors in various markets in Srinagar added to the traffic mess.

“Administration should enforce traffic diversion plan, extra manpower in place particularly during office hours so that jams can be avoided,” Aafaq Ahmed, a student said.

SSP Traffic Srinagar, Javaid Koul said that the department will continue taking sufficient measures to streamline traffic in the summer capital. He said Monday being the first day of school opening added to the traffic volume.

“We have talked to management of couple of schools whose buses ply in city center roads. We are jointly going to take measures to ensure that traffic from school vehicles won’t result in traffic jams,” the SSP added.
