A woman was killed and a health employee injured in cross-border shelling in Bagtore area of Gurez in this north Kashmir district on Wednesday.
An official said that Rahme Begum wife of Abdul Ahad, aresident of Dassi Bagtore, died due to heavy shelling from across the border.
He said that Rahme was injured after heavy artillery firingstarted from across the border last night.
"She was taken to CHC Dawar from where she was shifted todistrict hospital Bandipora. As her condition deteriorated she was referred toSMHS Hospital Srinagar in the morning, however, she succumbed on the way andwas declared dead on arrival at SMHS," he said.
He said that a health employee identified as Manzoor Ahmadson of Bashir Ahmad a resident of Naidkhai Sumbal was also injured in the crossborder shelling. Manzoor, who is posted in Bagtore at a health center, has beenshifted to CHC Dawar where his condition is stated to be stable.
HEAVY ARTILLERY FIRING CONTINUES IN URI
Meanwhile, heavy artillery firing continued at Uri in northKashmir's Baramulla district for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
"The Pakistani troops on Wednesday afternoon resorted toheavy shelling in Haji Pir sector and fired mortar shells in Churanda, Silkoteand Hathlanga villages," said Riyaz Ahmad, SDM Uri.
The locals said that the situation is extremely volatile asboth sides are using heavy artillery, thereby endangering the lives of commonpeople living along line of control.
The ceasefire violation along the forward villages inSundarbani, Machil, Gurez and Uri sector started on Tuesday. The exchange ofshelling between the two sides resulted in the death of a soldier in Sundarbanisector.
