Irfan’s tryst with entrepreneurship via electric blankets

To pursue his dream of entrepreneurship, Irfan Ahmad Dar ditched a job in a multi-national company to start his own venture ‘Home Care electronics’ which manufactures electric blankets. It was his passion that he pursued with dedication.

Irfan says that from the beginning he was clear that he yearns to do something, where he is independent to take decisions and there is no better way to do so than being an entrepreneur.

“I have done post-graduation in Islamic studies from Kashmir University. After completing my graduation in 2014, I went to Bangalore and started a job in MNC as a senior valuation specialist where I was drawing a handsome salary.”

“My aim from the beginning was very clear that I had to lead an optimal life and be a role model for someone. Right now my initial priority is that I have to prove myself in the selected career and be on the top list always.”

“It was in the year 2016 when I left my job and came back to Kashmir intending to be an entrepreneur to work freely and independently. After doing a lot of market research and seeing the people’s needs. I found that there is a very good demand of electric blankets in the market both in Kashmir as well as outside the J&K.”

“I decided to start the unit with a capital of Rs 11 lakh. I along with only two workers started from a three-room rented accommodation. As there are already manufacturing units running and most of them covering Kashmir market only, but with hard work, I was successful in sending electric blankets manufactured by my unit to other states of India which is an accomplishment I cherish.”

Irfan says that his journey was not easy, he faced problems which he had to overcome. “Everything was not easy for me, after starting my unit the problems I faced several problems. I was almost working 16 hours a day And till now for the last 5 years have not taken a single leave from the factory. It took me time to get the skilled manpower.”

“ Lack of space in my rented room accommodation was one such challenge which i faced inititally, as I have worked on the market from the beginning, I got decent orders but due to lack of space, I was not getting enough production. Was not able to adjust more workers due to space constraints which was hampering my growth,” Irfan said.

Irfan said there is stiff competition in the market and it poses the biggest challenge for me to set my brand in the market. I marketed my products to outside states as well.

“Currently I have a team of more than 50 people who are working with me. I my factory I have hired 15 employees and I am giving home-based work to more than 40 people. I am in the middle stage of my business. Starting from 2 employees to 50 and from the production of 500 units to 50000 units was quite challenging.”

“ Right now I have big clients working with me from like TR overseas and Digital Yogi. I have launched my product on all major online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. I got global orders from USA and Europe. Last year I got a turnover of Rs 1.5 crore from Amazon only.”

“There is a huge market for the electric blankets. I am working very hard to make my product available in every state of India. Every year we are growing more and are acquiring markets in all parts of India. Apart from this till now I have fully helped and trained many people to set up the units. Now they are also working and have given employment to dozens of people.”
