Army medical teams gear up to fight Covid-19

The Army on Wednesday said that its medical teams have geared up and they will be working together with civil administration in J&K and Ladakh to fight COVID-19.

“#IndianArmy medical teams geared up for #COVID19;establishing quarantine facilities & screening camps in coord with civiladministration of UTs of #JammuAndKashmir & #Ladakh,” Army Northern Commandsaid in tweet on Wednesday morning.

   

A video of Dr Col S Adhiya was also attached with the tweet,which explained how they will be helping the people in such a situation.

Adhiya, who is a doctor at Command Hospital Udhampur saidthe Army is prepared. “We are always prepared and our teams are alreadydeployed in far flung areas like Ladakh and other reaches,” he said, addingthat they are carrying screening and quarantine in far off areas.

“We will be going to remote places, villages,” he said,adding that Army will be giving awareness to the people.

Adhiya said: “We will be also giving protective covers likegloves and masks to the people living in remote areas.”

“The civil administration is working round the clock inthe Kashmir Valley to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease.  As part of the many proactive measuresundertaken, use of specialized sterilization chemicals to sanitize anddisinfect public places in the city is a major initiative. Due to the spell ofbad weather and unpredictability of the road links to the Valley, the SrinagarMunicipal Corporation (SMC) had approached the Army for their help in providingassistance to tranship the required chemical. Based on the requirementprojected, the Army in close coordination with the Air Force airlifted 1,200Kilograms of the specialised sterilisation chemicals from Delhi to Srinagar.Two Dornier aircrafts of the Indian Air Force were pressed into serviceimmediately for the airlift,” Defence spokesperson said in a statement.

“The prompt response in organising the airlift by theArmy and Air Force, ensured that the critical chemicals as required by theSrinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) could be made available well intime,” it said.
