Bandipora-Gurez road closed after fresh snowfall

Bandipora/ Kupwara, Nov 5: Authorities on Friday closed the Bandipora-Gurez Road for traffic after fresh snowfall in Gurez valley.

Accumulation of snow on the Razdan top connecting Kashmir with Bandipora has forced the closure of the road due to slippery conditions, officials said.

   

Dawar, the central Tehsil of Gurez was receiving light to moderate snowfall while as Tulail was witnessing moderate snow when reports last came in.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad confirmed that the Bandipora-Gurez road has been closed. It is for the fourth time that Bandipora-Gurez road has closed since October this year due to snowfall.

Meanwhile, the higher reaches including Z-Gali, Machil, Ferkhian Top Keran, Sadna Top, Budnamal, Kumkadi and Jumgund witnessed 1 to 2 inches deep snowfall following which district administration suspended vehicular movement on all roads leading to these upper reaches.

An official communique issued by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din said that “In view of the snowfall in border areas, slippery condition of roads and to save precious lives for accidental mishaps, it is requested to restrict the traffic movement on Kupwara to border areas.”

The advisory added that traffic must remain restricted till there is improvement in weather conditions. The Kupwara district administration has also advised people residing in upper reaches to restrict the outdoor movement.
