Cold wave grips Pir Panjal after snowfall, rain

Rajouri, Nov 27: Fresh snowfall at upper reaches and rainfall in lower belts have intensified the cold conditions in Pir Panjal sub-region.

Officials said that fresh rainfall in low-lying areas and snowfall at upper reaches started on Monday morning and continued for hours, till evening. This led to drop in mercury, thus intensifying cold wave conditions across the sub-region.

   

They said that upper reaches, especially in Thanamandi, Darhal and Kotranka areas of Rajouri district along with Surankote and Mandi in Poonch districts experienced several inches of snowfall.

Locals said, “So far, we were experiencing mild cold conditions. But inclement weather conditions have brought in the intense cold wave.”

DTI Traffic Police Mughal Road, Kapil Manhas, on being contacted, said that vehicular movement on road was going on normally and so far, there was no effect of snowfall on it.
