A policeman and a civilian were killed in a shootout when militants attacked a police party at WarporaSopore in north Kashmir Wednesday evening. Another policeman was injured in the incident.
The killed cop was identified as Wajahat Ahmad ofWagooraBaramulla while the civilian is Umar SubhanWagay of WarporaSopore. Theinjured policeman has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Khanday ofWagooraBaramulla.
Soon after the attack, security forces sealed the area andlaunched a massive search operation to nab the attackers.
Encounter in Budgam:
A vast area in Budgam district of central Kashmir has beencordoned off after militants and security forces exchanged fire Wednesdayevening, police said.
Police officials said that militants opened fire on a jointparty of Special Operation Group of J&K Police and 50 Rashtriya Rifles nearDoonwari. They said that the fire was retaliated. “The area is under cordon andsearches are underway,” police said adding that reinforcement has been rushedto the area to assist the already deployed forces.
