Covid19: 1047 cases, 12 deaths in 24 hours

For the second day in a row Jammu and Kashmir has recorded over 1000 COVID19 cases while 12 patients suffering from the viral respiratory illness have died in the last 24 hours. The total tally of COVID positive cases in J&K is 40,990.

As per government’s official figures the number of COVID19 positive cases reported in the Union Territory stood at 1047. It is for the second consecutive day that UT has reported over 1000 cases. Officials in the health department opine that the spurt in cases is mainly due to the fact that administration has ramped up its testing scale and introduction of rapid antigen test kits has ensured the high number of tests per day.

   

Of total 1047 positive cases, 74 are travelers. Kashmir region has reported 554 cases of which 54 are travelers. Jammu for the second day witnessed a spurt in the number of COVID19 positive cases; it has reported 493 cases, of which 20 are travelers.

The percentage of recovered patients continues to linger on at 76 percent. In the last 24 hours, according to the official media bulletin, 676 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged from health facilities. The total tally of recovered patients stands at 31,435.

The winter capital Jammu district has recorded the highest number of positive 322 positive cases, followed by Srinagar district where 175 COVID positive cases were detected.

Srinagar has become a COVID hotspot as the total tally of COVID positive cases in Srinagar is close to 10,000 mark.

According to health department officials, 12 people have died in the last 24 hours due to COVID19 in J&K. Nine deaths were reported from hospitals in Kashmir region and three in Jammu region, taking the toll of deaths to 776. Kashmir region has reported 694 deaths and Jammu region 81.

In Kashmir region, three Srinagar residents died due to COVID, a 43-year old male from HMT, a 53 year-old male from Ellahi Bagh and a 70-year old female from Rainawari. Three deaths have been reported from Kupwara district, two in Baramulla and one Pulwama district.

As per official figures district wise break-up of COVID cases in J&K is: Srinagar 175 cases, Baramulla 61, Pulwama 34, Budgam 78, Anantnag 48, Bandipora 34, Kupwara 69, Kulgam 21, Shopian 4, Ganderbal 30, Jammu 322, Rajouri 18, Kathua 40, Udhampur 44, Samba 13, Ramban 6, Doda 7, Poonch 11, Reasi 4 and Kishtwar 28.
