COVID19 | 4 deaths, 174 new cases in J&K

Srinagar, Nov 26: J&K continues to experience a surge in COVID19 fatality in comparison to the previous months as another four people lost their lives to the viral respiratory infection. Today, 174 fresh cases came to fore in the UT.

In the month of November, 38 people in J&K have already lost life to COVID19 as per the official figures. The number of COVID19 deaths in the month of October was recorded as only 8. The number of deaths caused by the Virus has increased by nearly five times in a span of less than a month. The manifold increase in the deaths caused by the virus has been a concern among the medical practitioners. Although the number of cases, a senior medico told Greater Kashmir, has increased by 100 to 150 percent, the percentage of deaths has increased at least double than that. He said the Government must start a thorough analysis of the sudden rise in mortality, especially in Kashmir division.

   

Another doctor that Greater Kashmir spoke to, said the deaths have mostly been reported in those who had not taken the vaccine and were co-morbid. “Unvaccinated and having a pre-existing disease were a dangerous invitation to both the severity of the infection and even death,” he said.

Today, four lives were lost to the virus, the official bulletin on the Pandemic said. Three of the deceased were from Kashmir division and one was from Jammu division. Two of the deceased people were from district Srinagar and the other from Anantnag district. The deceased from Jammu division belonged to Poonch district. A senior health official said that three of the deceased were admitted at Chest Diseases Hospital and were unvaccinated.

Meanwhile 174 people tested positive for COVID19 in the UT, 131 in Kashmir division and 43 in Jammu division. Jammu division had its higest single day rise in cases this month, the cases mostly from district Jammu and Doda. In Kashmir division, 63 of the fresh cases were from Srinagar district and 23 from Baramulla district. Kupwara district had 13 positive cases today. The number of active cases in J&K reached 1719 today, a steady increase in this number over the past three weeks.

Today, over 55,000 COVID19 tests were carried out across the 20 districts, the number of tests on an average daily now ranging over 50,000. J&K Government said 43661 doses of the vaccine were administered.
