Covid19 | J&K cases reach 300

With 22 new cases, the number of people testing positive for coronavirus in J&K reached 300 today, a leap of 200 cases in 10 days.

While the first case was reported in J&K on 19 March,there was a very slow accumulation over the next few weeks. J&K had 100cases on 5 April. The next 100 were reached rapidly, in five days, on 10 April.However, over the next five days, the cases have not doubled. Instead, there isa rise of 100 cases, touching 300 mark today.

   

J&K has also seen a slight drop in positive percentageof tests being carried out for coronavirus. Official data on COVID19 revealsthat out of the 1342 tests conducted and reported in J&K till 4 April, 92had tested positive, 6.8 percent of the total.

On 11 April, 214 out of 3206 had tested positive, apercentage of 6.6.

On 15 April, out of the total 5171 tests, 300 had testedpositive, a percentage of 5.8.

Official data reveals there has been a major fillip intesting in J&K.

On Wednesday, 22 new cases of the viral infection wereconfirmed at three testing laboratories in J&K. Of these,15 samples testedpositive at SKIMS. Giving details, Dr Farooq Jan, medical superintendent SKIMS,said eight patients who tested positive for the viral infection today are fromGanderbal. “These are an 11 year old female, a 25 year old male, a 35 year oldmale, a 17 year old female, a 15 year old male, a 25 year old female, a 28 yearold male and a 48 year old female,” he said. All of these patients were fromthe same village Guzhama

He said three patients from Bandipora, admitted at SKIMS,also tested positive – two males aged 25 and 45 and a female aged 38. All ofthese, he said, are contacts of coronavirus patients from the same village thathas emerged as hotspot in the district – Gund Jahangeer.

In addition, two each from district Kupwara (27 male, 31male) and Baramulla (36 male, 44 male) tested positive. These patients also hadhistory of contact with an infected person, he said.

Dr Jan said 344 tests were carried out at the lab in thepast 24 hours. Three patients that tested positive for the virus were admittedat JLNM hospital and tested at CD Hospital. The patients were residents ofSrinagar, Dr S Saleem Khan, in-charge COVID19 response at GMC Srinagar said. Hesaid 46 samples had been tested at the lab in the past 24 hours while144 wereunder process when this report was filed.

A six-year old girl from Srinagar was among the positivecases.

Four samples have been found positive in Jammu division.

Four patients whose two consecutive tests were negativeafter two week quarantine at SKIMS were discharged for administrativequarantine today. These include a 10 year old boy from Srinagar, who had testedpositive after coming in contact with a patient in a local mosque.

1 person tests positive for COVID-19 in Ladakh, total cases 18

Leh, Apr 15: Ladakh reported one positive case of coronavirus on Wednesday taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 18, officials said.

  However, only fivecases are still active as the rest of the 13 patients have been dischargedafter being cured of the infection, the officials said.

A resident of Chuchot-Yokma village of Leh was testedpositive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, while a patient from Kargil who was earliertested positive was discharged from the hospital after his second test camenegative, they added.

With the addition of another positive patient, the totalnumber of active cases in Ladakh has gone up to five — four in Leh and one inKargil, the officials said. PTI
