Day 7: Mughal Road remains closed

The historic Mughal Road remained closed for vehicular traffic on the seventh consecutive day Wednesday with authorities saying that the road restoration will be taken up in summer season of the next year only.

The road earlier got closed on last Wednesday due to bad weather conditions and heavy snowfall.

“The road is continuously closed and there is heavy accumulation of snowfall at Pir Ki Gali pass making the area completely snow packed,” said DSP Surankote, Khaliq Hussain.

Tariq Mahmood, Assistant Engineer of Mechanical Engineering Department, nodal agency for snow clearance on the Mughal Road, told Greater Kashmir that no more road restoration work will be taken up this year. “It takes almost ten to twelve days to clear snow up to Pir ki Gali but snowfall is taking place almost every day making it impossible to keep the road clear,” the AE said. “Now the road restoration work, with snow clearance, will be taken up next year only,” he added.
