Dodhi Gujjars launch human initiative

At a time when the Gujjar community in Jammu claims to be facing a malicious boycott campaign, the Dodhi Gujjar community has decided to supply free milk to all quarantine centres from Jammu to Kathua.

“When we do not have enough food to eat or to give it to ourchildren, we have decided to supply milk in the quarantine centres from Jammuto Kathua district free of cost,” said Jameel Choudhary, president, DodhiGujjars Community in Jammu.

   

Choudhary claimed that there is no cooperation from theauthorities. “We faced threats and boycott calls from Akhnoor to Lakhanpur inKathua. The discrimination is no new to us. Attempts are being made to damagethe community financially under the grab of covid19 threat by misleading thepeople,” said Choudhary.

He said, “Many people have stopped buying milk products fromthem. Hate is being spread among the people that Gujjars are the carriers ofcovid19 virus despite the fact that not even a single person has been foundpositive in our community, till date.”

He claimed that the decision to supply milk to quarantinecentres was taken in good faith to help the government to fight the deadlyvirus and overcome.

“We wanted to contribute in the fight against the covid19and we have taken a decision despite all threats to isolate our community,” hesaid.

He said, “Our milk products are not being purchased by thepeople. Compelled with the circumstances, some Gujjar youth threw milk in ariver in Hiranagar area as they failed to sell it.”

He said: “In Arnia, our cattle are not being allowed tograze. Baseless rumours are being spread among the people against the communityand they treat us carrier of the virus leading to discrimination against us.”
