Encounter breaks out in Pulwama

A gunfight between militants and security forces broke out in Lelhar area of Kakpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday evening.

A police official said late evening columns of police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Batpora-Lelhar village following inputs about the presence of militants.

   

“As they zeroed in towards the house the hiding militants had taken shelter in, they were fired upon. It was retaliated, triggering an encounter,” he said.

The police official said heavy exchange of fire was on.

“Lights have been installed and the area has been sealed to prevent the militants from escaping,” he said.

This is the second encounter of the day in south Kashmir.
