Gunshots during CASO in Anantnag village

Gunshots were heard during a cordon and search operation in Matipora village of south Kashmir’s Anantang district on Monday, a police official said.

He said that a joint team of the army and the special operation group (SOG) of the JK police cordoned off the village early morning following inputs about the presence of militants. As the searches were on, gunshots were heard which were followed by a lull, he said.

   

Another police official said that all the routes were plugged and door to door searches held. “The operation, however, was called off later in the day after nothing was found,” he said.

Army’s northern command earlier in the day tweeted that the speculative search operation in progress. “Warning shots were fired by troops at 11:00 and at 11:15 am there was a return fire,” it said.
