IGP Kashmir reviews poll preparedness in south Kashmir

Srinagar, May 6:  To ensure the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi Monday undertook a crucial visit to south Kashmir, covering the districts of Shopian, Pulwama, and Police District Awantipora.

The visit aimed at reviewing the poll preparedness in these districts. The IGP Kashmir was accompanied by DIG SKR and other senior police officers.

   

During the visit, IGP Birdi held crucial interactions with the district police chiefs and undertook a comprehensive review of the security situation in the range.

The discussions encompassed a wide array of issues, including the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), electoral arrangements at polling booths, and the security of contesting candidates among others.

A series of meetings were convened at Shopian, Pulwama, and Awantipora, which saw the active participation of district police and CAPF officers.

The district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) briefed the IGP Kashmir about the overall deployment plan including the arrangements made for CAPF companies.

Emphasising the need for close coordination with all security agencies, IGP Birdi stressed proactive measures to prevent any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the electoral process.

The discussions also focused on ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders involved in the elections.

The visit concluded with a comprehensive review of the strategies and action plans devised to ensure the peaceful conduct of elections in the region.
