JK sees 13 deaths in 24 hours

With another spike of 1592 COVID19 positive cases and 13 deaths reported on Thursday, the total tally of infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir has inched closer to 50,000.

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday reported 1592 positive cases out of over 23000 tests conducted by the health department across the Union Territory. The total tally of positive cases has reached 49,134.

   

This is the eight consecutive spike of over 1000 cases reported in J&K in as many days. On Wednesday, J&K had witnessed its highest spike of 1617 COVID cases. “Today’s increase is the second highest,” an official said.

Of Thursday’s fresh cases, 770 were reported from the Jammu region and 822 from the Kashmir Valley.

Jammu district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 421, followed by 218 in Srinagar district, the officials said.

As per the official figures, the district-wise break-up of positive cases reported on Thursday is: “Srinagar 218, Baramulla 75, Pulwama 68, Budgam 190,Anantnag 49, Bandipora 56, Kupwara 85, Kulgam 15, Shopian 2, Ganderbal 64, Jammu 421, Rajouri 48, Kathua 47, Udhampur 28, Samba 35, Ramban 8, Doda 31, Poonch 78, Reasi 28 and Kishtwar 46. Moreover, they said, 344 COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals— 71 from Jammu Division and 273 from Kashmir Valley.

There are 14,074 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the union territory, while 34,215 patients have recovered so far, they said.

According to a media bulletin out of 1152563 test results available, 1103429 samples have tested negative till September 10, 2020.

Covid Deaths

Jammu and Kashmir Thursday reported fresh 13 deaths due to COVID19, of which eight were reported in Jammu division and five in Kashmir division, taking the total tally of deaths due to this viral infection to 866.

Kashmir has reported the majority of COVID deaths, 735 persons died in Kashmir division and 131 in Jammu since the outbreak of pandemic coronavirus.

On Thursday, the Health department recorded five deaths due to COVID in Kashmir, of which two deaths each were reported in Srinagar and Budgam districts, one in Baramulla.

From Srinagar district, 70 year old female from Batmaloo and 45-year old male from Fakir Gujri Harwan died at SMHS.

From Budgam district, a 65-year old male from Charar Sharief and a 42-year old male from Hafroo Nagam were reported to have died due to COVID19. A 50 year old female from URI Baramulla also died due to viral respiratory illness.

In Jammu division, eight deaths were reported, of which two deaths were reported from Jammu district, two each in Doda and Samba districts. One death each was also reported from Reasi and Rajouri districts.

According to health official those who died due to COVID in Jammu include a 38-year old resident of Bari Brahmana, 62-year old male from Penthal district Reasi, 80-year old male from Ustad Mohalla, 55-year old male from Pacca Danga Jammu and 55-year old female from Karan Nagar Jammu.
