LG urges NHPC to solarise all Govt buildings

Srinagar, May 7: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday urged the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to solarise all government buildings within their mandate.

Chairing a review meeting of the Science and Technology Department, the LG instructed the Science and Technology Department to collaborate with NHPC and identify buildings for solarisation.

   

He also discussed important matters related to the functioning of the Jammu Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) and Jammu Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council (JKST&IC).

Sinha took stock of the key solar power projects and schemes including rooftop solarisation of government and residential buildings, solar power plants installed under the Smart City project and floating solar power plants.

He directed the officials to explore the installation of solar panels along canals, riverbanks, and other water bodies, besides proper maintenance and timely replacement of street lights.

The meeting also discussed various other issues related to the development of solar energy, Sub Regional Science Centre-Srinagar, Industrial Bio-Technology Park, and IEC activities in the Science and Technology field.

Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo; Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Santosh D Vaidya; Principal Secretary to the LG, Mandeep Kumar Bhandari; Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology Department, Saurabh Bhagat,  and senior officers of NHPC, Central and J&K government also attended the meeting.
