Lobbying intensifies for DDC posts in 4 districts

Political lobbying has intensified in Jammu region’s four districts where elections for chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the District Development Councils are going to be conducted on February 13.

Even as the BJP has won chairpersons and vice-chairpersons seats in five districts of the region including Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Doda, while they could only win chairperson’s position in Reasi district, the National Conference, Congress and PDP have joined hands to ensure their victory in Ramban, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch.

“Senior Congress leader Vakar Rasool had a detailed meeting with the National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana alongwith the elected DDC members in Jammu,” said a senior Congress leader while saying that they will contest jointly with NC in Ramban District.

The Congress leader said: “National Conference has 6 DDC members in Ramban and Congress has 2. NC will contest for chairperson’s position in the district and Congress for vice-chairperson position as both have agreed to support each other in the scheduled poll.”

“Congress has yet to finalize a candidate for vice-chairperson and NC has already finalized the name of their candidate who will fight for chairperson,” said the leader.

The BJP has only 3 DDC members in Ramban district and 3 are Independents out of total 14 in the district.

In the mountainous district of Kishtwar, National Conference and Congress Party have also come into alliance. In the district, NC has 7 members and Congress has 3, the BJP has 3 and one independent has also won from the hilly district.
